The 1978-79 Seattle Supersonics pose for a team photo during the 1978-79 season. The squad would go onto win the only NBA championship in franchise history. In 2008, the Sonics left Seattle, relocated to Oklahoma City and promptly put together one of the NBA’s most exciting teams. The Thunder knocked out the Spurs last night, 107-99, and will face the winner of the Miami-Boston series in the NBA Finals. Unfortunately for Seattle fans, it doesn’t take away the sting of losing their beloved Sonics.
The members of this 1978-79 squad are (front row) Trainer Frank Furtado, Dick Snyder, Jackie Robinson, Fred Brown, Joe Hassett, Dennis Johnson, Gus Williams, (second row) Head Coach Lenny Wilkens, Dennis Awtrey, Tom LaGarde, John Johnson, Lonnie Shelton, Paul Silas, Scout Mike Uporsky, Assistant Coach Les Habegger, (back row) Jack Sikma and General Manager Zollie Volchok.
