Sadly for NHL fans, the only pro hockey in the foreseable future are photos of old stars, in this case Philadelphia’s Bobby Clarke. The center played 15 seasons with the Flyers, amassing 358 career goals and 1,453 penalty minutes. He later served as Philly’s GM from 1994-2006. (John C. Hanlon/SI)

HACKEL: Don’t expect to see hockey anytime soon
The three referees assigned to this 1978 Sabres-Flyers playoff game certainly had their hands full. Buffalo, already down 1-0 in the best-of-seven series, drew even in the fight but would lose the game (3-2) and the series a few days later. (Manny Millan/SI)
Bobby Clarke shows off his toothless grin during a photo session with SI’s John Hanlon. Clarke, who was drafted 17th overall by Philadelphia in 1969, was named captain of the Flyers at age 23. His rough and, at times, controversial style of play gave him the title of one of hockey’s most hated villains on the sport’s most hated team, but he was beloved in Philly where he led the Broad Street Bullies to two Stanley Cups. Upon retirement, he had amassed 358 career goals and 1,453 penalty minutes. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1987 and served as the Flyers’ GM from 1994 to 2006. (John Hanlon/SI)
