SI has compiled its annual Turkeys of the Year and Lance Armstrong is amongst the undistinguished. The cycling legend was relieved of his record-seven Tour de France titles and banned from the sport for life for using performance-enhancing substances. (The International Cycling Union imposed a similar sentence.) Armstrong declined to challenge USADA, but rode off screaming “witch hunt!” despite more than 1,000 pages of damning evidence and testimony from former teammates. As a final indignity, his sponsors fled and the anti-cancer charity he founded dropped his name from its title. (Simon Bruty/SI)

In a stunning announcement, Lance Armstrong - seen here working out for his 2009 comeback - said he was giving up his fight against doping charges brought by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency. In doing so, the famed cyclist will be stripped of his seven titles in the Tour de France and will receive a lifetime ban from competing in any sport sanctioned by the World Anti-Doping Agency code.
