Rosie Ruiz is supported by two Boston Police officers after winning the 84th Boston Marathon in 1980. Several days after the race ended, it was discovered that Ruiz dropped out of the race, hopped on the subway, got off a mile from the finish line and ran in from there. The mistake was corrected and Canada’s Jacqueline Gareau was announced the winner. (AP)
